Books that Shaped Me in 2025 (Copy)

One tradition I have come to love, and just officially started, is sharing the books that have shaped me over the past year. Reading has become more than just a pastime; it has become a sacred space to pause, reflect, and discover new perspectives. Some books stretch my faith, some challenge my thinking, and others simply bring the joy of a well-told story.

This year, three books in particular stood out to me. Each one impacted me in a unique way, and together they reminded me of the power of story to shape our lives and perspectives.

The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

This book has been on my shelf for years, and 2025 marked my second time reading it. What struck me most is that it was just as powerful, maybe even more so, the second time through. Batterson boldly reminds us of the power of prayer, not just simple requests but bold, faith-filled prayers that circle around our biggest dreams and deepest fears. It challenged me to pray differently, to lean in deeper, and to believe that God is not intimidated by the size of the prayers we bring to Him.

The Women by Kristin Hannah

This book is not Christian, and I’ll offer a gentle warning: it is a war novel. But it was one of the most gripping stories I read this year. Kristin Hannah’s writing pulled me into the world of courage, resilience, and sacrifice, especially in the lives of women who bore untold burdens in the midst of conflict. Though fictional, it reminded me of the strength people can carry in the darkest times and gave me a deeper appreciation for both human resilience and the hope that we have in Christ beyond the brokenness of this world.

The Centurion’s Wife by Davis Bunn & Janette Oke

This historical fiction novel is set in the days following Jesus’ resurrection, a time filled with questions, uncertainty, and a rising movement of faith. The story beautifully weaves together love, truth, and the struggles of people trying to make sense of what had just taken place in Jerusalem. I found myself reflecting on how world-changing the Gospel was, and still is. It renewed a fresh wonder in my heart for the reality of Christ’s resurrection and the lives transformed in its wake.

Why These Stories Matter

Each of these books touched me in different ways spiritually, emotionally, and even creatively. They reminded me that stories have a unique way of shaping us, opening our eyes to new truths, and reminding us of old ones. Stories can inspire faith, ignite courage, and stir our imaginations.
